Player ratings: England v Japan

England’s final March friendly brought little encouragement, as a much‑changed side fell 1–0 to Japan at Wembley. Kaoru Mitoma punished a loose moment from Cole Palmer, and despite long spells of possession, England created little. Here are the full player ratings from a tough night.

England suffered a 1‑0 defeat against Japan at Wembley. Kaoru Mitoma’s sharp 23rd‑minute finish punished Cole Palmer’s loose touch and proved the only real moment of quality in a disappointing game. Much‑changed and disjointed, England dominated possession but carried little threat.

Jordan Pickford – 6
Had little chance with Kaoru Mitoma’s smart finish. Made one strong save from Ritsu Dōan to keep England in it. A steady night overall.

Ben White – 6
Started at right‑back and solid enough. Another night where the crowd’s reaction didn’t help him, but has made a claim for a place in the squad.

Ezri Konsa – 6
Calm on the ball. He made an important block after Japan worked an opening. Stable without being outstanding.
