The Sixty Six understands Thomas Tuchel is giving serious thought to a sensational recall for Chelsea defender Levi Colwill, ahead of this summer’s World Cup.

Colwill is included in Tuchel’s initial 55-man squad, which he’ll prune to 26 this Friday, although he can also be expected to take a handful of cover players for the friendly matches in Florida ahead of the tournament.

The England coach has made no secret that he wants athleticism at the heart of his squad for the intense conditions in the US and a potential last 16 trip to Mexico City.

Tuchel knows Colwill’s strengths well, from his time as Chelsea boss, and one of those strengths is just that. He’s gone some way to allaying any concerns around his recovery from his ACL injury with impressive performances in two big games, playing two full 90 minutes in the FA Cup Final and the draw at Liverpool the previous weekend, as well as 45 minutes against Nottingham Forest a week prior to that.
